a semi-serious post

so i've been thinking a lot about what i want to do after i graduate from college. i know i want to stay in the field of psychology... but that's quite broad. there's social work, research, clinical psych, occupational psych, etc etc. people have been telling me i should work with kids, since apparently i'm "good at it". for a while i was thinking about getting into forensic/criminal psych, but the more i think about it, the more i feel that maybe i really am supposed to be working with kids. maybe all these experiences in children's/youth ministry will actually turn out to be ones that i can use in the future. i'll keep praying.

anyway, within child psychology, there are still many areas to be involved in. for me, i feel that i have a particular burden for those who have suffered from abuse. i was thinking about this, and i remembered this song by Martina McBride. it's called Concrete Angel. i've posted the video and lyrics below. so, if you've got the time, watch the MV and read through the words... and please pray for the many, many children who fall victim to abuse daily.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out their light
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes, it'll be too late

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
